The Beginning of the New Scout Year

Welcome all new scouts and parents, and welcome back, all returning scouts and parents, to the blog for Cub Scout Pack 101 in Metropolis, Illinois.

This fall, we had 46 new scouts sign up, and have had several more sign up after the round up.  This makes fall 2008 one of the largest sign ups yet.

Below is a list of leaders and their meeting times and places.  

Tiger cubs (1st grade)  Temporary leader:  Roger Pugh

Meets Tuesdays, 6 pm, at the United Methodist Church, Metropolis

Wolf cubs (2nd grade) Leader:  Matt Alsip

Meets Tuesdays, 6 pm, at the United Methodist Church, Metropolis

Bear cubs (3rd grade) Leader:  Valary Sronce

Meets Tuesdays, 7 pm, at the United Methodist Church, Metropolis

Webelos I (4th grade)  Leader:  Leslea Bates, Assistant Leader:  Debbie Stamme

Meets Mondays, 6:30 pm, at the United Methodist Church, Metropolis

Webelos II (5th grade) Leader:  Balinda Hodges, Assistant Leader:  Robbie Adams

Meets Mondays, 5:45 pm, at the Eastland Baptist Church, Metropolis

The first order of business for new scouts is to get your appropriate Den handbook, which you can get from Hoopers, over in Paducah, for about $8.  During the first meetings, we will talk about uniforms, our uniform exchange, and the costs for uniform parts.

Every meeting, we collect 50 cents in dues, to begin to pay for registration for next year.

I will be sending out a September/October newsletter sometime next week.

We will begin our popcorn sales shortly.  Each year, cubscouts participate in one fund raiser, which covers our costs for everything we do for the upcoming year, and allows the boys to earn prizes for their hard work.  You will get information about popcorn sales very soon.

If you missed our sign up, please attend the den meeting that fits your son's grade, and we will be glad to sign you up at any time.

Summer Events and Fall Round Up

Valery was kind enough to give me a picture disk with pictures from almost everything we did this summer. Here it is as a slideshow.

The next things on our calendar are as follows: First, leaders will visit schools this coming week. Your son should bring home a flyer about our visit. Next, on August 26th, from 6 to 8 pm, we will host our new scout round up in the basement of the United Methodist Church in Metropolis. This is an event for new scouts only; returning scouts should be contacted by your leaders shortly.




Popcorn sales will start again in September. I hope that we will be able to do better than last year (that would be quite a feat). If anyone would like to ask me some direct questions about scouting, popcorn, upcoming events, please email me at pugh@shawneelink.net or phone at 618 524-8340.

August Pool Party

Remember, folks, that Pack 101 hosts a pool party for all the scouts, their families, and any interested parents or kids. We will have the Metropolis pool to ourselves from 6 pm to 9pm, Saturday, August 2nd.

Along with the pool, we will have a cookout, so bring your bathing suits and also bring your appetite.

Also, soon, we will be gearing back up for the new year in scouting. Thank you all for a memorable summer full of great cub scout events. We look forward to a new and exciting year for all of the boys.

The SUPERTRIP!!!!

Here are photos from the Supertrip. I hope you enjoy. We had a great time.

Sorry it's taken so long for me to get pictures up. Since the last time I posted, we have had our supertrip to the Land Between The Lakes. We started off at the Nature Station, then went through the Bison Prairie (it was too hot for the bison to be out, but we did see some wild turkeys), then had a great private show at the planetarium. After the planetarium, we had lunch, and the boys worked to complete their Astronomy Belt Loops. After we got back on the road, we traveled to Maggie's Jungle Golf, and then rode go karts at the Family Fun Center. We finished up at the Calvert City Drive-in, but the weather, which had been so cooperative all day, finally caught up with us and rained out the show that night. It had already been a great day, so missing the movie wasn't that big of a deal. We had a nice turn out. This first slide show is of the Cubmobile Race.
